Rachel Collier, technical sales manager at Bedford-based Midas Pattern Co, has been awarded the 2008 Kathbert Trophy by the Institution of Engineering Designers. The trophy was presented by IED president Geoff Kirk at the Institution’s AGM.
Rachel, who completed a tool-making apprenticeship at Huddersfield Technical College, was interested in the mechanical aspects of engineering from an early age.
Her role at Midas has enabled her to combine mathematics and problem-solving with the application of new technologies to a wide variety of work, and this continuous-learning programme has culminated in her successful application to become a Chartered Engineer.
The Kathbert Trophy is presented annually to a member of the IED who has made a significant contribution to design, leading to a tangible advantage to commerce and/or society.
Alan Rance, managing director of Midas, said: “Midas is proud to have supported Rachel through her studies, and we feel that this award recognises the qualities that make her such an important member of our management team.
We are delighted to congratulate her on winning this award, and we are confident that her career will continue to develop further within the company.”
