SPI acquires JK Lasers

SPI acquires JK LasersThe laser manufacturer SPI Lasers (www.spilasers.com) — a member of the Trumpf Group — acquired Rugby-based JK Lasers on 15 April.

With almost 100 employees and annual sales of 17.6 million euros, the latter is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-power fiber lasers for industrial use.

Formerly a member of the GSI Group, JK Lasers has more than 40 years of experience in laser development. The company’s core competence is in fibre lasers with outputs from 100W to 4kW, as well as ‘combiners’ for joining laser sources and other beam guidance components.

Its main target groups include manufacturers of machines for laser cutting applications and for additive manufacturing.

The products made by SPI Lasers and JK Lasers complement each other in many respects, with the former focusing on cutting, welding and marking with fibre lasers up to 1kW.

The Rugby facility will also act as an additional production and development centre for fiber lasers and optical components.
