Liebherr Aerospace has signed a contract with Boeing Commercial Airplanes to provide folding wing-tip system components for the latter’s 777X aircraft.
It will supply the fold sub-system, the latch pin actuator and the secondary lock actuator that allow the wing-tip to fold after landing, reducing the wingspan by 3.5m on each side.
The 777X will be available in two variants — the 777-8X and the 777-9X. Boeing is set to start production of the 777X in 2017 and plans to begin deliveries in 2020.
