Taunton-based Vapormatt (
www.vapormatt.com) has launched a new washing and drying machine that has been designed to clean and dry wet-blasted cemented-carbide in a single unit prior to coating. The patented stainless-steel Ocelot is a particularly compact unit that features a de-ionised water plant, air and water filtration systems and a vacuum unit.
The pre-programmed washing routines are designed to remove any blast media left on the surface to a cleanliness of better than one particle per mm2. The Vapormatt washing and drying process is up to 10-times faster than alternative systems.
A drying time of just 1min prevents any cobalt leaching, while the use of a vacuum to remove moisture from the surface consumes less energy than air knives.
To prevent re-contamination during processing, all the drying air and de-ionised water is filtered to 5µm. The Ocelot also conforms to all relevant EC and industry directives — plus it operates at a noise level of 75dB, which is some 10dB below the regulatory exposure limit.
