Recently introduced by Kaiser Precision Tooling (www.kaisertooling.com) is a new line of insert holders for face grooving, designed specifically to fit the company’s Series 318 and SW twin-cutter boring heads.

Available in the UK from Tamworth-based Industrial Tooling Corporation Ltd (www.itc-ltd.co.uk), these new additions are aimed at a broad range of applications.

ITC says that face grooving with boring tools is generally more efficient than milling with circular interpolation, especially when machining large diameters and surfaces for sealing applications.

This new face-grooving system can be used either as a single- or twin-groove tool for diameters ranging from 53 to 3,000mm, with groove depths up to 12mm and groove widths up to 9.5mm — 5mm with a single cutter.

Using the boring tools as twin cutters with an appropriate adjustment in radius and length allows the feed rate to be increased. Furthermore, these tools allow inside and outside diameters to be adjusted separately while maintaining the tightest of tolerances.
