Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa (
www.gamesacorp.com) reached a new milestone in Asia, when it entered a new market — Thailand — after signing an agreement with Chinese developer PowerChina ZhongNan to supply wind turbines with an output of 60MW for three wind farms.
Gamesa will supply 30 of its G114-2.0MW turbines for three sites in central Thailand. They are scheduled for delivery this year, and the company will maintain all these facilities for the next 10 years.
Gamesa’s Asian footprint encompasses Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Sri Lanka, China and India; it has installed over 5,500MW of power-generating capacity in these markets.
However, this is the first order for the G114-2.0 MW in the Asia Pacific region; the turbine is designed to yield more power at lower cost and at the low and medium wind speeds that are typical in this area of Thailand.
In its first year marketing this turbine, Gamesa signed orders to supply some 600 units to markets as diverse as Sweden, Uruguay, Poland and Brazil.
