Twin-cutter boring head for small diameters

Twin-cutter boring head for small diameters With the introduction of BIG Kaiser’s MW boring head, Industrial Tooling Corporation Ltd (ITC), Tamworth (www.itc-ltd.co.uk), can now offer a straight-shank indexable rough-boring tool for machining small-diameter holes in the range 16-21mm.

Based on BIG Kaiser’s 319 SW series of boring heads, the MW head has two cutting edges that can be set independently to the required diameter with a tolerance of 0.2mm.

It is designed for semi-finish and finish boring operations on components with die-cast holes; it also features a 20mm-diameter shank that is easily clamped in most commonly used milling chucks and tool-holders.

When machining aluminium, cutting speeds up to 280m/min can be used, with a feed of 0.3mm/rev and cutting depths up to 4mm.

Coolant is directed to the cutting edges; together with a spiral groove, this improves chip evacuation.

When producing blind holes, the coolant is routed through the centre of the tool to optimise chip evacuation (the coolant hole can be closed when required, using a stop screw).
