Optomec signs distribution dealMinnesota-based Optomec has appointed Viwa to distribute its LENS family of 3-D metal-printing systems in Mexico and Central America. Based in Guadalajara, Viwa has extensive experience of CNC machine tools, robots and mechatronic systems.

The Optomec LENS family of turn-key 3D metal printers is used to cost-effectively repair, re-work and manufacture high-performance components in materials such as titanium, stainless steel, and super-alloys.

The company says that its machines, which can be integrated with other metal-working machine tools, are “poised to have a game-changing impact on the manufacturing industry.

Viwa, which has been in business for over 30 years ago, was the first company to make CNC machine tools in Mexico. Over the years, it has extended its reach throughout Central America.

Its director general, Roberto Jacobus, said: “Adding LENS manufacturing technology to our product line follows our long history of introducing new and exciting metal-working capabilities to the manufacturers of Mexico and Central America.

“What’s especially exciting about the LENS process is that it can be adapted to our current line of CNC vertical machining centres, allowing our customers to produce parts that involve printing metal and then machine them in a single set-up on the same machine.”
