The Competition Commission of India (CCI) (
www.cci.gov.in) has fined Hyundai Motor India $66 million for not conforming to the provisions of the country’s Competition Act 2002.
In addition to the South Korean automotive firm, Mahindra Reva Electric Car Co and Premier Manufacturing Co were found guilty of violating the Act, but “mitigating factors” mean that they were absolved from any pecuniary penalty.
In a statement, the commission said: “These car companies were found to be using their dominant position
in the market for spare parts and diagnostic tools to protect their market for repair services, thereby distorting fair competition.”
