At the end of last month, a representative of California-based electric-car maker Tesla Motors appeared before the California Air Resources Board (CARB), where he revealed data suggesting that the automotive industry has been “actively and successfully” lobbying against fuel-efficiency improvements that the state has been working towards since the early 1990s.
Tesla vice-president Diarmuid O’Connell said that lobbying has “fundamentally set the state back in achieving its air-pollution reduction goals”.
He went on to say that the same type of lobbying is also taking place against zero-emission vehicles, including those made by Tesla.
