Battersea Power Station contractNottinghamshire-based A1 Flue Systems (www.a1flues.co.uk), which specialises in chimneys, flues and exhaust systems, has won a contract from the Swedish group Skanska (www.skanska.co.uk) to supply bespoke products for the re-development of London’s Battersea Power Station.

The contract will initially be worth £483,000, with the potential to rise to £2 million. The work will begin with the installation of a temporary chimney system for the development’s energy centre, and the phased opening of Circus West — a mixed-use ‘neighbourhood — will begin in late 2016.

A1 director John Hamnett said: “We are delighted to have signed the agreement to provide flue and chimney systems for the re-development of the site of the world-famous Battersea Power Station. This is the latest in a long line of iconic projects for a company that prides itself on being the best of British in both engineering and manufacturing capabilities.”

The company was in discussions with Battersea Power Station Development Co for more than two years before winning the contract. Its other projects in London include The Shard.
