New range of wire-cut EDM machines Coventry-based GF Machining Solutions Ltd (www.georgfischer.com) has introduced a new range of compact wire-cut EDM machines — CUT E 350 — which can accommodate workpieces up to 820 x 680 x 220mm and weighing up to 400kg. The machines also feature drop-down doors for easy access to the work area and the trouble-free loading and unloading of parts.

Key to the performance of the CUT E 350 machines is GF Machining Solutions’ digital generator technology. The Intelligent Power Generator is designed to allow manufacturers to cut with high levels of speed and accuracy, while at the same time achieving excellent surface finishes (Ra 0.16µm).

Built-in technologies also help users to maximise the machines’ potential. These include the company’s Power-Expert technology module, which monitors the cutting conditions and part shape in real time to ensure that the optimum power is always delivered to the wire. This is particularly useful when machining intricate details.

Meanwhile, the Corner-Strategy module automatically adjusts machining parameters to accommodate changes in direction, thereby optimising the machining of sharp angles and small radii. The Taper-Expert module allows tapers/cones up to 30deg to be machined in parts up to 45mm thick, while other aspects of the control can reduce cutting times by as much as 18% compared with standard EDM machines.

Also featured are a job management function that includes information about geometries, machining processes and command programs; these are processed in one file and allow jobs to be transferred between CUT E machines A collision protection system is fitted to the X, Y and Z axes, while glass scales provide high levels of accuracy.
