The entry-level Excetek V400G wire-cut EDM machine from Kenilworth-based Warwick Machine Tools Ltd (
www.warwickmachinetools.co.uk) has increased X- and Y-axis travels compared with its predecessor (the V350G); the travels are 400mm (X) and 350mm (Y), compared with 350 and 250mm respectively for the earlier model.
At the same time, the new machine can accommodate larger workpieces — up to 750 x 550 x 215mm and weighing up to 500kg — with just a small increase in the footprint of the machine.
The V400G has a honeycomb frame structure for rigidity and thermal stability, AC servomotor-driven C1-class cryogenically treated ballscrews, and linear scales for positional feedback.
Meanwhile, the Excetek automatic wire-feeding and wire-threading system features automated annealing that straightens the wire so it can be threaded at the break point during machining with almost 100% reliability — and without the need to return to the start position.
Submerged wire threading is also possible, which removes the need to drain and refill the tank. Furthermore, water-jet assist functionality is available for automatic wire feeds on tall workpieces.
Wire diameters from 0.15 to 0.3mm can be used, while a 50kg wire feeder can be fitted for extended operation.
Programming is via standard ISO G code or Excetek’s Icon Assistant conversational software. Optional extras include remote monitoring via SMS, which sends an automatic alarm message to a mobile phone if the machine stops cutting.
