The range of turning tools for stainless-steel workpieces has been extended by Chesterfield-based Dormer Pramet (www.dormerpramet.com) with the launch of a new chip-breaker and wiper inserts.

The NMR double-sided chip-breaker is said to provide a reliable option for longitudinal and face turning with high stock removal in medium and roughing operations, thanks chiefly to its strong cutting edge with protective peripheral land.

Dormer Pramet says that NMR is suitable for heavy machining and less stable conditions, with predictable insert behaviour providing increased tool life and productivity. The NMR chip-breaker is available for many types of Dormer Pramet inserts, including CNMG, DNMG, SNMG and TNMG.

The company has also has launched a range of wiper inserts for turning. Compared with standard inserts, the W-FM (single-sided) and W-NM (double-sided) wiper inserts are said to offer increased productivity (by allowing the use of higher feed rates), as well as high-quality machined surfaces.

Indeed, if used correctly, they can obviate the need for grinding operations. Both inserts feature a positive front land that is designed to provide smooth machining.
