Alstom (
www.alstom.com) has announced that it is to supply five more six-car X’Trapolis trains for Melbourne’s suburban rail network to “further enhance the network’s capacity, while also increasing the reliability of the entire system”.
This follows an order placed last June for five trains that are currently in production at Alstom’s manufacturing facility in Ballarat, Victoria, and are due to be delivered in September. The five new trains will also be produced in Ballarat, bringing the total number of rail cars produced there since 2002 to 552.
Mark Coxon, managing director of Alstom in Australia and New Zealand, said: “We are pleased with the new order from Public Transport Victoria, which illustrates its trust in Alstom’s mobility solutions.
“This will not only secure the manufacturing pipeline in Victoria well into 2017, but it will also provide additional transport capacity to the residents of Melbourne’s area and allow them to commute on-board a reliable, comfortable and environment-friendly mode of transport.”
