Halesowen-based Sandvik Coromant (
www.sandvik.coromant.com) has released its CoroMill 745 double-sided multi-edge face mill. With its tilted insert positioning system and sharp cutting edges, the cutter is said to offer a light cutting action and low power consumption.
Featuring a total of 14 cutting edges per insert, CoroMill 745 cutters include three pitch versions. The differential MD pitch, which is compensated radially to ensure equal chip thickness for every insert, should be used when vibration is a factor, while the M pitch is best for general applications.
The H pitch has a higher number of teeth, making it the first choice for higher productivity requirements.
Developed to make insert indexing quick and easy, the insert positioning system in the tip seat and heptagonal insert design keep the inserts secure in the pocket. The positive cutting action is generated as a result of having the inserts tilted in the tip seat.
Insert geometries and grades are available for steel and cast iron materials, and for roughing to semi-finishing applications.
