3D Systems has introduced GibbsCAM 2016, which is available in the UK from Tech CADCAM (
www.techcadcam.net), Bury St Edmunds. Building on the Universal Kinematic Machine (UKM) technology of the previous edition, GibbsCAM 2016 is compatible with a range of operations, including solid modelling, high-speed machining, two- to five-axis milling, multi-task machining and wire EDM.
New features and functions include enhanced thread milling (with support for multi-point tools), tapered threads for both single- and multi-point tools, and improved simulation. In addition, the latest VoluMill technology provides new tool-path strategies designed to optimise the high-speed roughing of large pockets and slots, while the open-face milling strategies introduced are said to reduce cutting times by up to 60%.
Further enhancements include new oriented turning capabilities that give users added control over how tools interact with parts. There are also additional tool-path strategies for five-axis milling; these allow customers to define tool-path direction using the natural flow of a surface with the new Flowline option. Furthermore, tool-paths can now be extended in width as well as length. Improved five-axis drilling, multi-stepped pocket roughing and new gouge-checking strategies also feature.
