New face mill reduces cost per part

New face mill reduces cost per partThe CoroMill 745 double-sided multi-edged face mill has been introduced by Halesowen-based Sandvik Coromant (www.sandvik.coromant.com). With its insert-positioning system and sharp cutting edges, the milling cutter is said to offer a light cutting action and reduced power consumption.

With a total of 14 cutting edges per insert, the CoroMill 745 cutter range includes three pitch versions. The differential MD pitch is recommended when vibration is a factor; it is compensated radially to ensure an equal chip thickness for every insert.

The M pitch is the first choice for general applications, while the H pitch has a greater number of teeth, making it the preferred choice when higher productivity is required.

Designed to make indexing quick and easy, the positioning system of the tip seat and the design of the heptagonal insert keep the inserts securely mounted in the pocket. The inserts are tilted to offer a positive cutting action, while geometries and grades are available for steel and cast-iron materials.

Alan Cawtheray, product manager for milling in the UK, says: “The insert design has 14 positively tilted cutting edges, spaced at different positions to deliver a milling cutter that is quiet and ‘soft’ in its cutting action. For our customers, this means they get a productive milling cutter and increased tool life at a lower cost per component.”
