In January 1976, the Amodil Group was established as a UK trading office for Olarra SA, selling stainless steel bar on a ‘manufacture to order’ basis.

As the orders began to grow, so did the stock, and in 1984 the company purchased its current 81,000sq m site near Kidderminster. The group is now the largest stockholder of stainless-steel long products in the UK, holding over 5,000 tonnes of round bar, billet, wire and tubular products.

With an increasing demand for material to be supplied in cut pieces, Amodil recently spent over £250,000 expanding its already modern cutting shop to allow the cutting of diameters up to 520mm to length tolerances as tight as 0.5mm; it bought two Danobat bandsaws from Kettering-based Prosaw Ltd (www.prosaw.co.uk).

These machines — a Danobat IDS5 with a 520mm-diameter capacity and a Danobat DS3 with a 300mm-diameter capacity — were supplied complete with integrated extra-heavy-duty material-handling systems.

Both can accommodate many grades of solid stainless-steel bar, including Duplex, Super Duplex and 17/4 PH grades, as well as the more standard 316L, 304L and 303 grades. Both machines are fitted with M42 bi-metal blades.
