A planning application to develop a low-carbon technology centre in Coventry where car manufacturers can test the next generation of engines has been given approval.
The project is led by Coventry University and German vehicle-systems manufacturer FEV (
www.fev.com). The centre will be located at Coventry University Technology Park and will initially have the capacity for four engine-testing facilities, with an option to expand to eight. It will be developed by Coventry University and leased to FEV.
According to planning documents prepared by Broadway Malyan, the new centre will “strongly support the development of an industry-led PhD programme” and will also be an important step in FEV’s expansion in the UK. Planning officers said the proposals for the site could make a “significant contribution to the economy by supporting the motor industry, education and university research”.
