Rugby-based Mapal Ltd (
www.mapal.com) is strengthening its drilling line with the introduction of the company’s TTD-Tritan Drill, which is said to be the industry’s first triple-edged replaceable-head drilling system.
The TTD-Tritan Drill tool-head and tool-holder are fixed by a new interlocking Hirth-type serration system. This connection is said to be extremely stable, allowing the replaceable-head variant to offer all the benefits and performance of a solid-carbide equivalent.
According to Mapal, the new drilling line can be used reliably, even in difficult drilling applications such as on inclined bores or cross-bore drilling. The tool’s pronounced drill tip ensures accurate centering.
The TTD-Tritan Drill reduces change-over times by allowing on-machine tip changes without any loss of accuracy; and with three cutting edges, the tool-head ensures uniform loading on the tool-holder.
Initially developed as a ‘universal variant’, the TTD-Tritan Drill is suitable for machining cast iron, stainless steel and carbon steels. It is available in diameters from 12 to 32mm in 0.5mm increments.
