Next-generation indexable-insert drillsTamworth-based Industrial Tooling Corporation Ltd has made available the latest Top Cut 4 drilling line from Widia (www.itc-ltd.co.uk).

This is offered with three Victory grades and two different geometries for drilling steel, stainless steel and cast iron; it is available in diameters from 12 to 68mm.

Top Cut 4 is targeted at machine shops needing one drill that can perform in a variety of applications and different workpiece materials.

Its application capabilities include through- and cross-hole drilling, inclined entry and exit drilling, 45deg corner drilling, half-cylindrical drilling, concave drilling and chain drilling. As a result, Widia Top Cut 4 can reduce tooling inventory.

With excellent centring capabilities and four-edge inserts for both pocket seats, Top Cut 4 can cut to depths up to 5xD at high rates of material removal; this is attributed to having both periphery and centre inserts, which stabilise the drill and balance the cutting forces. Widia says this insert configuration also prevents drifting on irregular surfaces.
