Baldock-based Floyd Automatic Tooling Ltd has introduced the Applitec Pro-Line range of indexable-insert turning tools (
www.floydautomatic.co.uk).
Developed for producing small parts on sliding-head turning centres, Pro-Line provides a combination of Applitec’s Top-Line twin-screw insert products and the single-screw Eco-Line.
According to Floyd Automatic, this gives the customer an insert range that offers diversity, performance and quality, while meeting ‘cost down’ demands.
Among its principal features is a patented insert-clamping system which ensures that a broken insert with just one remaining edge can still be used.
Two ranges of holders and inserts are available. The 630/640 grooving and turning types feature a short and wide insert geometry for ‘robust’ turning applications, while the 650/660 types are for parting off; these provide thin and long insert geometries for applications up to 20mm in diameter with a 2mm insert width.
Applitec offers its Pro-Line range with many of the established insert geometries from the Top-Line range, including its laser-generated forms.
Pro-Line is available with the option of a TiAlN-coated universal grade for machining steel, stainless steel and titanium alloys, or as an uncoated grade for interrupted cutting and other difficult machining tasks.
The selection of insert geometries includes the 632/642 (front turning), 632X/642X (front turning), 632S/642S (multi-function turning), and the 631-EP and 641-EP (blank inserts).
For the 650/660 parting-off range of tools, Applitec offers the 651/661 standard parting-off insert among a number of others.
With regard to the tool-holder selection, there are square shanks that include 8, 10, 12, 12.7, 16 and 20mm sizes, with overall lengths of 50, 75, 90, 115, 120 and 130mm — depending on the tool width.
There is the option of an integrated coolant-supply system, as well as both left- and right-hand cutting options, for both tool ranges.
