Connect 2 Cleanrooms has completed the installation of an ISO Class 6 & 7 clean-room at Swansea University to help support solar cell research (as part of the Specific project) (www.connect2cleanrooms.com).

The aim is to develop materials and manufacturing methods to put solar photo-voltaic cells on glass and steel construction materials.

These will replace conventional roofing, cladding and glazing products, so that buildings can generate a significant proportion of their electricity demand from the fabric of the building alone.

Following the construction of new laboratories on Swansea University’s Bay Campus, a clean-room was required to provide a stable and consistent environment for the research, as well as a larger space to co-locate all the solar-cell activity.

Specific’s tight specification required the temperature to be kept at precisely 21°C — along with less than 30% relative humidity at all times.

Pete Greenwood, technology transfer fellow at Swansea University, said: “Connect 2 Cleanrooms provided an extremely professional and prompt service, with excellent communication throughout the design process and during installation. The clean-room looks fantastic, and we are very pleased with the end result.”
