Mazak unveils latest Multiplex turning centreWorcester-based Yamazaki Mazak (www.mazakeu.co.uk) has launched the latest version of its Multiplex turning centres for high-volume applications.

The Multiplex W-200Y features two spindles, two turrets and a gantry loader (optional) to help maximise productivity.

The two spindles allow continuous, simultaneous machining with automatic workpiece transfer from one spindle to the other (each headstock can move towards the centre of the machine in the Z axis); they also allow the Multiplex to reduce production lead time, operator involvement, programming and in-process material.

Multiplex W-200Y models are equipped with the company’s Smooth Mill Drive turrets featuring integrated 5,000rev/min motors.

Moreover, these machines can be equipped with an optional gantry loader (GL-100) that can give a 20% reduction in load/unload time (the rapid movements in the A and B axes are 100 and 180m/min respectively).

The Multiplex W-200Y features a wedge-bed design that is said to offer high levels of rigidity, as well as improved chip and coolant flow.

Furthermore, it features a large window, a new operator control panel and a short distance from the front cover to the spindle centre line for ease of set-up.

The control panel of the SmoothG CNC system offers touch-screen functionality, similar to a smart-phone or tablet, along with easy conversational programming for multiple-surface machining.

There is also a range of fine-tuning functions for different workpiece materials and application requirements.

SmoothG also comes equipped with a number of ‘smart’ machining functions, including intelligent thermal shield, variable acceleration control, smooth corner control and intelligent maintenance support.
