Matt Snelson, the newly appointed managing director of the Marches Centre of Manufacturing & Technology (MCMT) (
www.mcmt.co.uk), has urged firms in the local LEP catchment area to come and use the facilities at his training hub.
The 36,000ft
2 facility in Bridgnorth — backed by Grainger & Worrall, Classic Motor Cars, Salop Design & Engineering and In-Comm Training — is intended to improve skill levels across the LEP area; its goal is to serve over 2,000 people by 2020.
Mr Snelson said: “Part of the hub’s ethos is to stop firms ‘cannibalising’ the skills pool for their own ends and to look at the bigger picture.”
In addition to accessing the training courses available, the MCMT is looking for businesses to sponsor different zones within the centre, which is due to open in August.
“We have a fantastic opportunity to create an Engineering Powerhouse in the Marches, but we can’t do it on our own,” said Mr Snelson.
“The Marches LEP has listened to our requests for an employer-led solution to close the skills gap; it’s now time for business leaders to step forward and shape the offer, so that we can equip young people — and existing employees — with the skills they need to deliver an immediate impact for their companies.”
