Essex-based Esab Group (UK) Ltd (
www.esab.co.uk) has unveiled its Renegade ES 300i MMA/TIG welder. This inverter-based machine is said to offer high power in a compact portable format.
It weighs 15kg, measures 460 x 200 x 320mm and produces a maximum output of 300A at 40% duty cycle. Easy-to-grab front, rear and top handles offer flexibility for lifting, making it suitable for ship and offshore yards, construction sites, pipe repair and maintenance, and heavy fabrication applications.
Martin Freibergs, business product manager (arc equipment), says: “When Renegade can’t be located next to the work, its strong output enables the use of welding cables and work leads up to 100m long, while a remote amperage control extends operator range by providing extreme accuracy over long distances.
“For added location flexibility, automatic voltage detection enables the machine to accept three-phase primary power input ranging from 230 to 480V ±10%.”
Renegade’s handle design offers built-in storage and security for the welding cables, so that operators can quickly pack up by wrapping the cables around the handles and locking them in place with a dedicated shoulder strap. The machine has an amperage output range of 5-300A, including LiveTIG for TIG welding where HF ignition cannot be used.
It can weld with electrodes up to 6mm in diameter and has gouging capabilities with ‘carbons’ up to 4.8mm in diameter. Esab says this capability makes it the most powerful welder in its weight class.
Performance features include adjustable hot start — a process that is designed to provide optimal energy during the starting sequence, improve the strike performance and reduce sticking.
Similarly, adjustable arc force allows the operator to find the right balance between arc control, penetration and weld bead appearance. Preferences can be stored in one of three memory functions.
