Alcester-based Seco Tools (UK) Ltd (
www.secotools.com) has introduced two insert grades for turning cast iron. Both TK1501 and TK0501 have wide application potential and feature Seco’s next-generation Duratomic coatings.
Duratomic technology involves the manipulation of aluminium oxide (Al203) — used as an insert coating — at an atomic level to improve mechanical properties and increase thermal and chemical inertness.
TK1501 and TK0501 also incorporate Seco’s Edge Intelligence concept.
Essentially, this ‘chrome used-edge detection’ capability helps manufacturers to spot if an insert’s cutting edges have been used.
UK turning-product manager John McGhee says: “Chrome used-edge detection makes it easy to identify wear scars on inserts, even in low-light environments, thereby preventing customers from prematurely discarding inserts with unused edges. We estimate that this feature significantly reduces waste and costs.”
TK1501 and TK0501 grades are available in different insert sizes and geometries, and with different chip-breaker configurations to suit all turning requirements in cast iron.
