Latest Silent Tools milling adapters

Latest Silent Tools milling adapters The latest Silent Tools milling adapters from Halesowen-based Sandvik Coromant (www.sandvik.coromant.com) have been designed to offer improved damping characteristics in operations where long slender milling tools are used.

Inside each adapter is a pre-tuned passive damper (a counteracting mass that serves as a shock absorber).

This improves the dynamic behaviour of tool assemblies in a variety of milling applications using slender tools; these applications include face milling (even at high feed rates), deep shoulder and side milling, pocket milling, slot milling, profiling and circular ramping — plus helical interpolation.

Further details include undersize shanks that allow side clearance between the adapter and workpiece; this allows the use of a nominal-diameter cutter rather than an oversized cutter, and it is advantageous because a lower-mass cutter is more productive than a larger version on a long slender assembly.

Having this flexibility avoids the need to compromise component designs and productivity when the use of slender tool assemblies is required.

Suitable for all ISO material groups, the new Silent Tools milling adapters can be used on tool assemblies with useable lengths from 4xD. They are available with Coromant Capto and HSK-A/C interfaces.
