Tamworth-based Industrial Tooling Corporation Ltd (
www.itc-ltd.co.uk) has introduced a compact centring tool designed for small lathes and turning centres.
The Big Kaiser CTL-90 features a stationary dial gauge that faces the machine operator at all times, rather than rotating with the spindle of the lathe.
This simplifies the tool and lathe chuck-centring process, saving set-up time and improving operator productivity.
In fact, machine setting can now be undertaken from outside the machine when using the CTL-90, making it safer to use than dial indicators, which require the machine setter to lean into the work envelope.
A fine-setting mechanism on the tool enables adjustment to within 10µm, with a stroke of 2mm. Setting can be achieved with the spindle rotating at speeds up to 100rev/min.
The centring tool weighs 0.4kg and consists of a dial indicator, magnet, adjusting bolt, stylus and counter-balance weight. A magnetic base simplifies tool mounting.
