Turn-milling using up to three tools simultaneously allows the Miyano BNE-51MSY from Bushey-based Citizen Machinery UK Ltd (
www.citizenmachinery.co.uk) to machine both ends of a workpiece in a single cycle.
The BNE-51MSY, with its fixed-head main spindle and two-axis secondary spindle, offers synchronised/superimposed control for both its 12-station all-driven turrets — one with three axes of travel, the other with two.
This configuration not only reduces cycle times but also increases tooling utilisation.
Weighing in at 8 tonnes, this Miyano machine has been developed to optimise heavy-cutting cycles, while delivering fine surface finishes and extended tool life — especially on difficult-to-machine materials.
Contributing to this performance is a substantial slant-bed casting with precision hand-scraped square guideways.
The fixed main spindle is rated at 15kW, while the secondary spindle is powered by a 7.5kW drive with 150mm of stroke in X3, and 450mm in Z3.
Both spindles have a 51mm capacity and a maximum speed of 5,000rev/min. Multiple tools can be carried in both turrets, allowing ‘simultaneous service’ to either or both spindles.
Overlapping tooling applications further reduce non-cutting time. The configuration of turret axes allows the upper turret to provide X1, Z1 and Y1 travels of 190, 380 and ±40mm, while the lower turret has an X2 travel of 190mm and a Z2 travel of 175mm.
