Laser-based texturing machine range expanded

Laser-based texturing machine range expandedCoventry-based GF Machining Solutions Ltd (www.gfms.com) has expanded its range of laser-based texturing machines with the introduction of the compact Laser P 400 three-axis and Laser P 400U five-axis models.

These machines have been designed to provide straightforward and repeatable laser engraving and texturing of small — often complex — parts, such as cutting tools, small mould inserts and micro-machined components.

The Laser P 400 machine accommodates workpieces up to 600 x 400 x 250mm, while the P 400U can process components with a maximum diameter and height of 120mm.

Of modular design, the machines feature a dual-laser head that includes both a ytterbium pulsed fibre laser and a femtosecond pulsed laser.

This allows the texturing and engraving of surfaces in a single set-up; it also extends the range of materials that can be machined to include steel, aluminium, carbide, brass, copper and ceramic.

With the femtosecond laser, glass, sapphire and polymers can also be engraved.

The machines are automation-ready and can be equipped with a System 3R pallet changer, if required.

Managing director Martin Spencer says: “The Laser 400 series of machines gives manufacturers a fully digitised process that makes it easy to texture, mark and engrave parts, moulds and mould inserts.

“Incorporating femtosecond laser technology opens up new possibilities for creating aesthetic nano-textures that include ‘ripple’ effects, as well as enabling burr-free engravings to be produced.”
