Yeovil-based helicopter manufacturer Leonardo has won its second order this year from the Pakistan government for an undisclosed number of Agusta Westland AW139 Intermediate twin-engine helicopters.
These will be used on utility, search-and-rescue and emergency medical-service operations. Deliveries are expected to start in early 2018. The Italian-owned manufacturer has now sold about 1,000 AW139 helicopters to more than 250 customers in 70 countries.
A spokesman for Leonardo said: “This contract is a further step towards the completion of fleet-renewal programmes spread over several batches, plus logistic support and training. It is a major achievement for Leonardo, expanding the already successful presence of the AW139 model in Pakistan.
“A fast-growing fleet of AW139s is already in service there, with several units operated by the Pakistan Government for relief and transport duties.”
