Walter sro (
www.walter-machines.com) has completed the expansion of its machine-building plant in Kurim, Czech Republic.
An investment of 6 million euros has seen the completion of new buildings (covering 2,500m
2) for assembly and logistics — plus a redesign of the Democenter for East European customers.
In 2014, Walter invested around 8 million euros in expanding its production capacity with new machining centres (fed via an automated pallet system), as well as grinding machines and large measuring machines.
At the official opening ceremony, the mayor of Kurim — Drago Sukalovský — paid tribute to a more than 20-year success story and the commitment of Walter to the area, which is a renowned centre of mechanical engineering.
Meanwhile, Jürgen Schock, CEO of Walter Maschinenbau GmbH, explained how the plant has continuously developed from being an assembly facility for basic machines to a ‘state of the art’ production plant for complex machine systems with related production, assembly and logistic capabilities.
Stephan Nell, CEO of the United Grinding Group (Walter’s parent company), emphasised the importance of the Czech location for the future development of the company, as well as the group. “Machines for Walter Maschinenbau GmbH in Tübingen, Germany, have been built in Kurim since 1996.
The initial focus was on the production of Walter tool-grinding machines, then the production of Walter CNC measuring machines was added.
“With the integration into the United Grinding Group of the Körber Group, the Czech facility expanded its range of services to components for other group companies.”
