Tamworth-based Industrial Tooling Corporation Ltd (www.itc-ltd.co.uk) has unveiled its 3301 Cyber end mills for the machining of deep cavities in aluminium components.

The three-flute aluminium roughing tool is a long yet stable end mill for heavy-duty aluminium removal. According to ITC, its ‘knuckled’ outer-edge geometry delivers robust roughing with rapid swarf evacuation.

The centre-cutting solid-carbide tools are available in 6, 8, 10, 12, 16 and 20mm diameters, with the shank diameter identical to the cutting diameter; this design maximises the stability and rigidity of the tool as it reaches into difficult-to-access faces and corners.

To ensure that the 3301 tools can reach such areas, ITC has necked them. This allows the respective diameters to provide reaches of 18, 24, 30, 36, 48 and 60mm. Despite this reach range, surface finish, tool life and overall stability are maintained by a geometry design that retains cutting lengths of 8 to 24mm, depending on the tool diameter selected.

The 3301 series of cutters has been manufactured with overall tool lengths from 90mm (for the 6mm-diameter tool) to 150mm (for the 20mm-diameter cutter). They have neck diameters of 5.6, 7.5, 9, 11, 14.8 and 18.7mm.

That said, ITC can alter the neck diameter (or length) to accommodate specific customer requirements.
