Newcastle-based Wi-Fi group Nomad Digital (
nomad-digital.com/)has won an order to install systems on 93 new trains being built for one of the country’s largest rail operators.
Nomad, which was recently taken over by French transport giant Alstom, won a contract from Great Western Railway (GWR) to deliver Wi-Fi systems on the company’s new intercity express trains.
The company is a world leader in rail Wi-Fi, providing services for many UK train operators, as well as a large number of transport companies overseas.
Nomad has been working with GWR since 2013. The new contract will see it fitting Wi-Fi systems on new trains that are being built at the Hitachi factory in Newton Aycliffe (County Durham) and another in Italy, using Japanese bullet-train technology. Nomad said that it will also provide a reporting and monitoring system to GWR.
Jean-Philippe Tissot, Nomad Digital’s chief commercial officer, said: “This is a significant new project win, which extends our good relationship with GWR.
“We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with a long-standing customer, demonstrating the commitment to accompany them into the future through the latest technology to support their on-going passenger needs.”
The first of the new GWR fleet will come into operation this autumn, offering more seats, extra luggage room, faster journeys and improved passenger information.
