Finnish group adopts robotic welding

Finnish group adopts robotic welding The Lehtonen Group, which specialises in supplying tailored metal structures for a wide range of industry sectors — including energy and marine — has three business units: Lehtonen Engineering, Lehtosen Konepaja and Siirtoruuvi.

The last two have recently placed orders with Pemamek Oy Ltd (www.pemamek.com) for automated welding systems designed to significantly improve productivity and quality.

Erkki Lehtonen, Lehtonen Group CEO, said: “Our manufacturing processes require a lot of welding hours. If we want to maintain our competitiveness in global markets, we need to be in the front line with our machinery. This is why we have invested in the most advanced and efficient robotic welding technology.”

For Lehtosen Konepaja, Pemamek will supply a PEMA robotic welding station with WeldControl 300 Offline software — a parametric system that allows rapid re-programming of the robot for the efficient production of one-offs.

The station includes a portal-type Yaskawa robot, a three-axis PEMA Skyhook 5000 positioner and a two-axis PEMA 20000 Skyhook; these have a 40,000kg handling capacity.

Another PEMA robotic welding station will be delivered to Siirtoruuvi, which focuses on designing and manufacturing screw conveyors and screw pumps.

Instead of a portal-type robot, this will feature a floor track type, along with PEMA headstock and tailstock units with a 10,000kg capacity.
