TVR to launch new car at Goodwood Revival

TVR to launch new car at Goodwood RevivalBritish sports car manufacturer TVR (tvr.co.uk) is to unveil a new high-performance car at the Goodwood Revival in September, to tie in with the company’s 70th anniversary.

This will be TVR’s first new model in over 10 years.

The car — as yet unnamed — will weigh around 1,200kg and will be powered by a 5.0-litre Cosworth V8 engine with an anticipated power output of 480bhp; this should give a top speed of 200mph and a 0-60mph acceleration time of just 4sec.

A limited run of 500 ‘Launch Edition’ cars — each priced at £90,000 — is selling fast, with buyers having seen the new car at a private event.

The new 2017 TVR has been designed in conjunction with Gordon Murray, the man behind the McLaren F1. His company, Gordon Murray Design, will use its proprietary iStream carbon-fibre chassis manufacturing method when the new car goes into production.

Les Edgar, TVR’s chairman, said: “Historically, carbon fibre has been reserved for motor-sport and high-end super-cars, but TVR will be offering customers a slice of that technology at a fraction of the price.

“The carbon manufacturing process really is a game changer, and one I’m delighted to offer to all of our early-adopter Launch Edition customers within the package cost.”

Gordon Murray added: “From early on, it became apparent that there was no reason why we couldn’t develop a carbon fibre chassis structure for the new TVR at a lower cost than manufacturing processes previously allowed.”
