Erith-based RK International Machine Tools Ltd (
www.rk-int.com) has added the Robbi Omicron IGU CNC internal grinder to its product range.
This machine features a four-position spindle turret that can be configured for a multitude of set-ups, including internal and external grinding wheels; there is also a position for a tailstock, to allow for workpiece centring.
The Omicron IGU features a solid granite machine base to provide thermal stability, while rigidity is aided by the use of roller linear guides that also reduce stick-slip for increased speed and acceleration.
Absolute linear encoders are used on the X and Z axes to ensure high levels of accuracy and repeatability.
The machine has a 2,600 x 1,600mm footprint, plus travels of 450 and 650mm in the X and Z axes, and it accommodates a maximum rotating diameter of 650mm; the maximum diameter for both internal and external grinding is 200mm.
The spindle turret has a repeatability accuracy of 2 arc sec, plus a total swivelling range of -5 to +275deg, with a resolution of 0.001deg.
Control is via a Siemens 840D sl; this features three options for shoulder grinding, which can be achieved manually, automatically or with the addition of gap control (the latter aids cycle time reductions).
Furthermore, wheel dressing is carried out automatically, either outside the grinding cycle, automatically as part of the cycle, automatically at specified intervals, or on demand.
