KMF inspires the next generation of engineersSchool pupils from across Staffordshire recently competed to become Lego robot champions in KMF’s Young Engineer of the Year competition, which was held at Staffordshire University.

The precision sheet metal company (www.kmf.co.uk) launched this initiative four years ago to engage youngsters through engineering and promote career development in the STEM subjects.

This year’s competition challenged pupils to design, build and program real-life robots from scratch, using pieces of Lego.

The robots then had to complete animal-themed tasks against the clock. The event was hosted by Jason Bradbury, who presents The Gadget Show on Channel 5.

The overall winner was the team from Endon High, whose design and technology teacher — Mr S Mitchell — said: “KMF’s Young Engineer programme has captured the imagination of a group of students and inspired them in a way that I could not have imagined.

“The Lego kits that KMF supplied have transformed the way we can deliver design and technology — and the way my students can learn and work.”
