Hexagon to invest in smart factory in ChinaHexagon (www.hexagonmi.com) has revealed plans to invest about 90 million euros in a new 52,000m,sup>2 production facility in Hongdao, China.

Details were announced by Norbert Hanke, president of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence (MI) division, at HxGN Live — the company’s international conference, which took place recently at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas.

The new site, which will primarily produce metrology systems for the MI division, will use Hexagon’s smart manufacturing technologies to produce and calibrate the systems; it will also house software development and customer support teams covering the company’s wider portfolio of products.

Office and meeting space, recreational areas for employees and a Hexagon solution centre will also be included in the Hongdao facility.

Construction will be managed using Hexagon’s own enterprise construction solution, HxGN Smart Build. The project will start this year, with completion targeted for 2020.

Hexagon president and CEO Ola Rollén said: “The factories of the future must be flexible and modular working environments, with data-driven ecosystems that embed agility and quality into every phase of the production
process.

“Our new facility will not only deliver high-class products and services for our customers in China and the surrounding region, but also pioneer new technologies to support smart manufacturing.”
