Second-quarter orders up at Mills CNC

Second-quarter orders up at Mills CNCMills CNC (www.millscnc.co.uk) — the exclusive distributor of Doosan machine tools in the UK and Ireland — has announced that machine tool orders in Q2 exceeded the 100 mark.

Managing director Kevin Gilbert said: “Clearly, we are delighted with the results. Over the last six months, we have launched a number of new Doosan machines into the market; over the same period, we have completed several complex turn-key and process improvement projects with aerospace- and energy-sector customers.

“Moreover, we have further increased our head-count and strengthened our sales and service operations, which goes a long way towards explaining our strong showing in the first half of 2017.”

Mr Gilbert says all machines — from horizontal and vertical lathes through multi-tasking mill-turn centres and both vertical and horizontal machining centres to horizontal borers — are well represented in the company’s Q2 sales results.

“Worthy of special mention are the recently introduced DNM-series of vertical machining centres — DNM 4500, DNM 5700 and DNM 6700 — which are available with a choice of Fanuc, Heidenhain or Siemens controls. These three-axis VMCs have become a ‘staple’ for UK and Irish manufacturers of precision components.”

Mr Gilbert also says that the company’s decision late in Q2 to stock Siemens-controlled lathes and turning centres has also paid dividends.

“This decision, combined with the company offering Siemens-controlled machining centres a little over two years ago, means that component manufacturers looking for Fanuc, Heidenhain or Siemens controlled machines now need look no further than the Doosan range.”

The company is also holding a two-day Open House (18-19 October) at its Technology Campus facility in Leamington Spa. There will be 18 machines on show, with highlights including a flexible manufacturing cell comprising a Doosan DNM 5700 machining centre integrated with a RoboJob workpiece load/unload automation system.
