Bombardier to sell manufacturing site

Bombardier to sell manufacturing siteBombardier is selling one of its manufacturing sites in Newtonabbey (Northern Ireland) (www.bombardier.com).

The Canadian-owned aerospace giant, which employs just over 4,000 people in the province, is selling its Doagh Road site, which currently produces engine nacelles (and also deals with after-market support for that side of the business). The asking price is £19.5 million.

A spokeswoman told the Belfast Telegraph: “As we continue to optimise our manufacturing footprint, we are exploring how to make the best use of non-core assets at our Doagh Road site in Newtownabbey.

“Any commercial arrangements regarding non-core assets will have no impact on our operations there; business will continue as normal.”

It is understood that Bombardier is also exploring opportunities for another Newtownabbey site (at Church Road). In March, it withdrew plans for a major retail development that included a supermarket, a filling station and industrial units. Bombardier has cut around 1,080 jobs in Northern Ireland over the last 18 months.
