Ovivo Inc, which is based in Quebec, has won a new contract to build a water-intake screening system for the UK’s first new nuclear plant in three decades.
Awarded by French power giant EDF Energy, the 27 million euro contract is part of the multi-billion-dollar Hinkley Point C nuclear project, currently under construction in south-west England.
The water and wastewater-treatment company’s screen system will be designed to process 191m3 of cooling water per
second. Ovivo said most of the design and manufacturing of the system will take place in the UK, where it has a subsidiary. The company said it expects the project to take about eight years to complete.
Hinkley Point C is scheduled to begin generating power in the early 2020s.
