Wabco Holdings Inc says that Daimler Trucks has extended the long-term supply agreement between the pair for new heavy-duty automated manual transmission (AMT) control technology to support its series production — mainly in Europe, North America, Japan and South America.
Wabco is supplying Daimler with its latest generation of tailored AMT solutions, which automatically shift gears and control clutch actuation for commercial vehicles. AMT technology enables drivers to focus their attention on road and traffic conditions; it also helps to minimise any performance gap between highly skilled and less experienced drivers.
Fuel savings and reduced maintenance are said to be further benefits. Wabco has sold 3.5 million AMT systems world-wide.
Jorge Solis, Wabco president (truck, bus and car OEM division), said: “Our industry continues to adopt AMT technology, with great growth potential in the USA and all BRIC countries, as OEMs and fleet operators seek to increase driver comfort and safety, improve fuel economy, and reduce emissions.
“Our new contract with Daimler Trucks extends our existing AMT supply agreement, while also expanding volume.”
