Walsall-based Boltight has played a key role in the success of a deep-sea gas pipeline project off the coast of Australia.
It was asked by Darlington-based Subsea Innovation to provide — on a strict delivery schedule — a bolt-tensioning solution for structural split repair clamps on the Emergency Pipeline Repair Systems.
Two sizes of bolt tensioners were produced — M120 and M150; these were used to tighten the main bolts located around the clamp body, and they were activated remotely.
The tensioners have a long stroke with a double-acting design, so they can operate in both directions and be reset without being brought to the surface.
Nitin Patel, Boltight’s commercial and project manager, said: “This project demanded the highest specifications and a tight turn-round. It was a perfect example of our ability to develop and supply complex bolt-tensioning solutions.”
Boltight’s bolt-tensioning systems, pumps, hoses, fittings and accessories are exported all over the world for use in many different industries. The company also offers a fast turn-round on the design and manufacture of special tools.
In 2015, it was acquired by Sweden’s Nord-Lock group; it recently announced record sales, a growing order book and the opening of a new production facility at its headquarters in Walsall.
