Electric gripper is maintenance-free

Electric gripper is maintenance-free Newport Pagnell-based Schunk Intec Ltd (www.gb.schunk.com) (Hall 3, Stand E55) will be further expanding its flagship PGN-plus gripper brand with the arrival of the PGN-plus-E, which features an IO link which it will be showcasing at EMO 2017.

The device is said to be the world’s first (lifelong) maintenance-free 24V electric gripper that meets the IO-link class B standard.

Schunk’s latest gripper only requires one connection plug to control movement and use the integrated diagnostics function. Users can also have direct connection to the IO-link class B master without a Y distributor; and because the required control and power electronics are fully integrated with the gripper module, no space is taken up in the control cabinet.

Gripping force can be individually adjusted to suit the workpiece via the IO link — a functionality that accommodates handling scenarios for a variety of parts.

Furthermore, in order to achieve the shortest closing times and cycle times, the gripper fingers can be pre-positioned as required.

Sensors are integrated as standard and can be used to measure the stroke and speed of the gripper fingers, as well as power consumption. An integrated diagnostics function permanently monitors the status of the gripper and automatically transmits errors to the control system.

The Schunk PGN-plus-E has a redesigned multi-tooth guidance system that allows higher maximum moments, while diagonal-pull kinematics offer high surface coverage in all stroke positions.

A brushless DC servomotor drives the mechatronic universal gripper, thus offering process stability.
