Leading sub-contract moulding company LGG Charlesworth (LGGC) recently invested £500,000 in a 500-tonne injection moulding machine (IMM) from Wittmann Battenfeld UK.
The Malvern-based company has been making and assembling injection-moulded thermoplastics and compression-moulded thermoset products for more than 50 years, serving a number of market sectors, including automotive, aerospace and electronics (with customers including Racal, JLR and Rolls-Royce) (

The new machine was bought to boost the company’s ability to supply larger parts. Shaun Champion, LGGC commercial director, said: “Our Wittmann Battenfeld machine was selected following a detailed assessment of eight different machine manufacturers and 12 different machine options. This showed that the Wittmann Battenfeld press ticked all the boxes.”
The key features that LGGC was looking for in its new machine included low energy consumption and the ability to monitor and control energy usage.
The company also had a specific requirement for a machine with a small footprint — and it wanted all its production cells to be fully integrated and offering the latest Industry 4.0 technology.
