Beverley-based Romica Engineering Ltd (
www.romica.co.uk) has joined forces with design specialist Epsilon Engineering to deliver a new stacking system for plasterboard manufacturer Knauf UK Ltd.
Romica owner and managing director Bob Turner said this job demonstrates how the company can extend its abilities beyond the maritime sector, which has been its main focus to date.
Mr Turner said that Romica won the order from Epsilon in January; the system was tested in April, and it was installed in May at Knauf’s manufacturing facility in Immingham.
“The brief involved replacing an existing material-handling system, responsible for stacking and discharging sheets of plasterboard.
The new system had to be reliable, efficient and durable. Epsilon had previously been involved with the design of a similar system for a Knauf facility in Kent, so we had a firm idea of the customer’s requirements.
"We were able to provide additional benefits from a plant ‘care and maintenance’ standpoint.
“The new system is capable of handling different lengths and widths of plasterboard. It has been manufactured with welding of the highest-possible quality, along with protective covers and bellows over devices and exposed mechanisms to guard against the harsh operating environment.
"It also benefits from high-quality pneumatic components for the actuation process.”
