Hoffmann Group (
www.hoffmann-group.com), the Munich-based tooling specialist, has added to its Garant MasterSteel range with the launch of a solid-carbide high-performance cutting (HPC), finish-milling cutter that produces high-quality surface finishes in a very short time on steel, cast-iron and stainless steel components.
With seven cutting edges, the tool achieves lower roughness values than a classic six-cutter tool and is available in 2, 3, 4 and 5xD for general-purpose applications.
It is suitable for the finish-machining of components produced by additive manufacturing or near-net-shape
processes.
The milling cutter’s coated and precision-ground cutting edges have free-cutting capabilities, while the improved flute profile ensures reliable chip clearance.
To prevent flexural breakages or forced displacement during the production process, the milling body has been designed with a large core diameter and is made of a substrate with a specific cobalt content, while 45deg chamfers at the corners of the inserts — together with selective honing of the peripheral cutting edges — provide additional working life and an even pattern of wear.
The unequal end-face cutter pitch promotes stability and ensures a smooth cutting action.
Hoffmann Group has now completed its Garant MasterSteel range for high- performance milling of steels, which includes tools for side milling, slotting, ramping, helix milling, roughing, finishing and drilling.
